How To Get Your Child to Sleep Using This All Natural Sleepy Spray

All Natural Sleepy Spray

The week after school let out, we went to the beach with my mother-in-law. I was already dreading the mornings even before we left, because I knew Ry and K were going to wake everyone up at the crack of dawn! What a vacation… especially for one pregnant momma, one newly cancer-free granny, and a hard working daddy who never gets to sleep in.

I always joke on breaks from school and say that by the time I get the kids sleeping in past 6 in the morning, then it’s time to start school back up again. So I did not go into this vacation thinking any of us were going to catch some extra ZzZz’s.

Little did I know, my mother-in-law had a trick up her sleeve (I don’t even think she really knew it either).

Now, if you have read any of my other posts before, you know that I have a deep obsession with essential oils. So how I missed this before now, I have no idea. But my mother-in-law brought along her own sleepy spray that she makes for herself at night. On that first morning, when I woke up realizing the sun was actually out, I thought that they must’ve let me sleep in- maybe cashing in my pregnancy card early? But when I walked out of the room, EVERYONE was still asleep! I was in shock.

How did this happen?

Granny’s Sleepy Spray!

And the best part? It’s ALL NATURAL!!

Little did I know, that night, she sprayed it in her room (where the kids were sleeping) and when I walked in there the next morning they were all still knocked out! And this lasted all week!! HALLELUJAH! It truly seemed like a miracle. So I bet you can guess what I did when I got home… Yup, I made my own sleepy spray!

Now, let me warn you: this spray has been known to work so good at times that my son, who is currently working on sleeping without a pull-up at night, wet his bed during naptime. Which is something he NEVER does! And the only thing I can think of is that the sleepy spray really knocked him out good those few times (;

I don’t use this spray every night, but I do use it almost everyday during naptime because that seems to be when K struggles the most with settling down. And it really has revolutionized our naptime routine. Instead of fussing and the constant “GET BACK IN YOUR BED!” “STOP PLAYING WITH THOSE TOYS!” He, generally, falls asleep without any trouble. Talk about making naptime a bit more simple (:

So now, I would love to share our Sleepy Spray recipe with you!

Here is what you will need:

  • Tinted, Glass Spray Bottle 4oz  (when using essential oils it is best to use them in tinted glass bottles, but if all you have on hand is a regular spray bottle that will work too)
  • Distilled Water
  • 10 drops of Lavender (I buy my oils in bulk from Plant Therapy, so I do not pay $15 for one bottle of oil, instead I pay about $5- they are different sizes, so keep that in mind too)

All you have to do is fill the bottle with the distilled water, add the lavender (I normally add a couple drops more, just to because I like the smell of lavender), and swirl together- when you are mixing oils do not shake, swirl. Trust me, it matters- And Viola; you’re done!

When I use the sleepy spray, I just spray it a few times on their pillows and that’s it! My bottle has lasted me over a month and I still have plenty left. It doesn’t take many sprays, so don’t feel like you have to drench the pillows. Just two or three and you will be ready to go!

Have you ever used a sleepy spray before? Maybe a different recipe or different oils? Let me know! There are so many different ways to use essential oils and this is just one of many. Comment below and tell me your favorite thing to use essential oils for. Or, if you have any questions please ask!!

I use about 10 drops lavender, 4 drops orange, 3 drops chamomile, and 1 drop ylang ylang and normally use it in a diffuser at night, but have a spray bottle with the same mix 🙂 All of my oils are from plant therapy as well.

I will definitely be trying that! That just sounds super relaxing (: And isn’t Plant Therapy just the best?? I’m so glad I stumbled upon it years ago!
