The Alternative to YoungLiving & Doterra Essential Oils

Do not think that YoungLiving or DoTerra are your only options for 100% pure essential oils. The PlantTherapy brand offers high quality oils at a fraction of the cost! Let me tell you my experience with them. www.abitofsimplicity.com

Essential Oil Junkie coming at you live, from the comfort of my own bed, sharing with you some life changing news!

Okay, maybe not “life changing” – eh, maybe it is… depends on how deep your love for essential oils are. If you are like me, this is completely life changing (:

After I started my journey on this road to my essential oil obsession, I quickly learned that there was a lot of information out there on essential oils — and I mean a lot! It was pretty overwhelming.

You had people telling you one thing and someone else contradicting it the next minute. There were rules and safety tips to follow, which I wasn’t expecting. I was completely naive. But luckily I figured it out, for the most part. I’m still learning too!

That’s one great thing about being a teacher; I know that learning NEVER stops!

If you missed my previous posts on essential oils you can catch up on them here by clicking on the blue titles:

  • The Importance of Using 100% Pure Essential Oils: this has all the basic information I learned (compacted into one blog post), do’s and don’t’s, what to use, what to buy, how to use the oils, etc. It’s really a great read for beginners!
  • How to Use Essential Oils Topically: this posts discusses the dangers of not knowing how to properly apply essential oils directly to your skin, tips and tricks, the different benefits these oils can offer & where to place them, plus more!

When I started this process, as I googled my heart out, I was always brought back to the two “main” oil distributors:

YoungLiving and doTERRA

So naturally, I looked into them. I knew the importance of buying and using oils that are 100% pure. It really boils down to either getting the “real deal” or living with the placebo effect.

As I began my research, two things stood out to me:

  1. You have to sign up to become a distributor yourself to access these oils (or at least buy them for a decent price).
  2. They are expensive!

I’m not sure about you, but I’ve done the whole consultant thing. And yes, this doesn’t look like it requires as much work as most distributor jobs entail- but I still don’t have time for that! Plus, the price for your starter kit is still $160. No thanks, I’m waaaay too cheap for that… Plus, I don’t want to sign up and fill out forms and create accounts. I just want to buy some high quality oils!

Then, I looked into buying them without the consultant pricing. And let me tell you, if you are easily spooked, you better hold on to your panties…

The cheapest bottle I found was about $15 and the most expensive was $112!!!

THAT’S FOR ONE (5ml) BOTTLE OF ESSENTIAL OIL!!

And the prices just sky rocket after $15 and hover around the $40 mark… for one bottle.

That just completely blew my mind. There was no way I was going to be able to afford this whole all natural oil thing! But I just couldn’t believe those were my only options. There had to be other people out there, with smaller wallets like me, who could afford to use these oils. There just had to be!

Then I took my searching to Amazon. I browsed almost every essential oil brand I could find, looking up reviews, and reading about the companies.

And finally I found it…

Plant Therapy

(click the link above to see what I mean)

They’re ahhh-mazing! I could finally breathe. Once I found Plant Therapy, it truly felt like love at first sight.

I ordered my first set of oils (6 100% Organic and Pure Essential Oils) for less than $30. 6 of them! That’s a difference of (insert really smart mathematical percentage here) from buying YoungLiving or doTERRA. Okay, so it’s late and I’m not doing the math, but I know it’s A LOT!

Cheap. Simple to order. And 100% pure.

You got me!

I have been using Plant Therapy essential oils for over 2 years now and I love it! They even have child safe oils that are specifically made with children in mind, which I love because that’s one of the main reasons I use essential oils!

Plus, they have so many options to choose from. You can buy oils individually, buy in small bulks, or buy in large bulks. You can buy single oils or their oil blends. The options are endless. It’s really amazing. Plus, they get shipped to you in these really cute wooden boxes- that makes storing them even easier.

If you don’t believe me, head on over to Amazon and check them out yourself! Do your own research. Order your first pack of oils. I’m pretty positive you’ll fall in love with them, just like I did!

Have you found any alternatives to YoungLiving and doTERRA that you just love? Share them with me! I’m always up for trying something new (:

There is actually a quick test to determine this: take your oil and place a drop on a white piece of paper, let it air dry, once dry if there is no mark where the oil was then it is pure – if there is still a ring after it has dried then that is your sign that it has been diluted.

Like you, I did a bunch of research when I first started using EOs and was blown away by the price. And honestly, Young Living had an underlying medicinal smell to a lot of them, so I didn’t want to use them.
I had a massage, and the woman used Plant Therapy. Once I checked them out, I was amazed at the price and the quality!

I didn’t know that (about Young Living)! I’ve never used them, just because of the price. When I talk about Plant Therapy I get a 50/50 response: 50% have heard of them (& LOVE it) and 50% don’t know who they are. So I love spreading the news, or connecting with other people who love them as much as I do!

Thank you for this! I recently bout a distiller and have been making my own, but some materials are hard to come by where I live. I’ve been buying Doterra but will look to Plant Therapy. 🙂

Julie, I have not seen any research on if they can be safely ingested. Actually, since writing this article – I have become a Young Living user (ironic, right?!). It was for this exact question that I began using them. I just couldn’t find enough research to confidently ingest or use the other oils internally. Young Living, however, has a “seed to seal” promise that they have had a hand in each project from the time it’s created to the time it arrives at your door. They also have a vitality line which is specifically labeled for ingestion… I think it’s time for me to do a blog update XD

I would definitely recommend Lavender! It’s not very strong (doesn’t have that strong “floral” scent that everyone assumes). And depending on the amount of drops you use (3-5) will impact how much you actually smell it. Lavender is my favorite for sleep, but you could also use Chamomile or Clary Sage. I like to use a blend of Lavender & Clary Sage at night. Let me know how it works for you!

Hello, I was reading all the comments. I am ashamed to admit that I bought into the doterra mlm. The oils are not affordable. I have’ not tried plant therapy but I found another brand called revive and they’re prices are much more affordable and the quality is excellent with them. Have you heard of revive and if so how does it compare to plant therapy oils?
